The Northern Ireland Food and Drink Association (NIFDA) has appointed Simon Fitzpatrick, General Manager of Coca Cola HBC Ireland and Northern Ireland, as the new Chair of its board at its 30th Annual General Meeting. He succeeds outgoing Chair Professor Ursula Lavery MBE, with Bernie Orr, Chief Financial Officer at SHS Group, appointed as Vice Chair.
NIFDA held its landmark AGM on 27 May 2026, bringing together leaders and representatives from across the industry to reflect on the past year and discuss opportunities for the sector. Michael Bell OBE, Executive Director at NIFDA also presented the findings of the recent EY Economic Impact Assessment of Northern Ireland’s agri-food sector.
Speaking after his appointment, Simon Fitzpatrick said:
“It is a privilege to take on the role of Chair, following the outstanding leadership of Ursula Lavery MBE, at such a pivotal time for Northern Ireland’s food and drink sector. We have an industry with real ambition and talent, one that is not only central to our local economy, but increasingly recognised for its quality, innovation and resilience on a global stage.
“My focus will be on ensuring our members have the conditions they need to grow and compete. That means championing the sector at the highest level, strengthening partnership and collaboration across the supply chain and with government, and ensuring sure our voice is heard where it matters.
“There is significant opportunity ahead, particularly in how we embrace innovation, respond to changing consumer expectations, and accelerate our transition to more sustainable operations. NIFDA has a key role to play in supporting businesses through that journey and helping unlock the investment needed to make it happen.”
Welcoming Bernie’s appointment as Vice Chair, Simon added:
“I would also like to congratulate Bernie on her appointment as Vice Chair. Since joining the NIFDA Board last year, she has already made her mark and a strong contribution. Her experience and insight will be invaluable as we continue to support and represent the sector.”
